1929-1933 Herbert Hoover Vice President was Charles Curtis. H. Hoover's Inaugural Address.
President during the Great Depression, triggered by the stock market crash on October 24, 1929. By early 1930s more than 35,000 businesses had shut down and 12 million people were out of work. Hoover set up government funded banks to funnel loans to businessmen and farmers in an effort to revive the economy, but the measures proved to be ineffective.
