1969-1974 Richard M. Nixon Vice President was Spiro T. Agnew R. M. Nixon's First Inaugural Address. R.M. Nixon's Second Inaugural Address.
He improved relations with Communist powers. He supported China's admission to the United Nations (1971). Nixon was the first President who (while in office) visited China and the Soviet Union (1972). He pioneered SALT treaties on arms limitations with with U.S.S.R. (1972). Nixon ended the longest war participation in U.S. history, the Vietnam War (1973). He was forced to resign by the domestic Watergate scandal (1974) following attempts to cover up crimes committed by aides during his 1972 reelection campaign.
